Message	cost of hardware is the same, but for those who don't do their own install and wire runs a haltech is a pain in the ass hence why shops and people charge a lot to install them...not hard work just tedious and time consuming, so therefore haltech isn't for everyone and sometimes people can only afford one thing at a time. I for one think the haltech is the absolute way to go if you have a lot invested in your car but there is no way i will ever install a haltech ECU (just hardware and wireless not tuning) into someones car for less than $500 (that's if you catch me on a good day), it's easily a full days work and not more to make it clean and run it nicely
