When moving my TT setup into an NA shell, I had a good spd>TT driveshaft, and then acquired a 5spd>NA with a busted carrier bushing. I found the mating plate between the NA and TT driveshafts to be different, even though they were both 5spd. Also, the TT shaft is a lot thicker. I needed a good 5spd>NA combo. Anyways, using a 27mm socket, impact wrench, and my pulley puller, I took swapped the mating pieces around. Note, the first time I didn't pay attention to how the ends lined up, and had to do it again. Anyways, I ended up with TT5spd>NA combo, and it seemed to be fine. However, then I had problem with my differential, which I thought was the DS, replaced the DS with 1-piece, and then ended up replacing the diff and keeping the 1-piece. I think it would have been okay in the long term. TL;DR - I played swappy games with the 2 pieces and it seemed to be okay.
