Message	are doomed to make the same mistakes. Your exact thoughts on rebuilt aftermarket alternators is what drove me to rebuild the OEM unit in my 525i. Good quality brushes and diode plates are still available. Maybe two pages away from the end of the internet,but out there. Good old fashion American hot rod ingenuity is a good character trait to have.
