Airflow voltage was more erratic when the sensor was placed off by 90ยบ without the air flow straightener. This was a common thing with earlier fords when guys would get the injector/MAF kits and they wouldn't place the MAF as it was in OEM configuration. Some cars even have a notch in the OEM hose and the MAF has the little part that slides into the notch like My BMW's and old SAAB. The MAF they want you to keep it at a certain orientation. The Z32 N62 MAF Hotwire likes to be in the N/S position for the most part with both OEM screens and standard intake kits. Usually the honeycomb/air flow straighteners are used when guys have inconsistencies with high whp cars and using larger MAFs but works just as good on OEM MAFs. some guys gain 1-3 mph at the drag strip by reducing the Turbulence at the MAF.
