Message Afternoon - hyperbole
Weeks months years - hyperbole
Not comparable at any level - hyperbole
10-20k - hyperbole (because if he wants the 20k version he is going to do most of that to the yellow TT anyways)

Basic swap is getting pretty cheap - all the stock parts are almost free. Now if you want to include all the usual desired upgrades and required maintenance as a "swap" cost then I'd argue that the yellow TT will need most of that anyways and so that cost is the same for either car.

That is why the trade sounds close to fairly valued at even.

Now mechanically....

Once the exhaust, driveshaft and tranny are dropped, it is pretty straightforward to go ahead disconnect the fuel and electrical and remove the entire NA engine, and there are any number of reasons (like blown motor mounts) that he might decide to anyways.

Now finally the hard part: what goes back in? 25 year stock parts which would be cheap or free, or $20k of the latest and greatest? As I have already said - if he wants the latter, it will get spent on either car.

PS : and if he buys the TT he will find out that am correct when he upgrades and tries to sell his stock parts.

Fool :-)
