Several months ago, I purchased what I thought was a TT Fidanza flywheel from Ian Lanusse (apostrophe28) on the forum. We agreed upon a very reasonable $150 for the flywheel considering it was used and did not come with a new insert. Upon receiving the aluminum flywheel and inspecting it thoroughly, it looked to be a Fidanza (and in the correct condition). A week or so later, I ordered a new insert (which also seemed to fit the drilling pattern on the flywheel). I did not remove the insert from the product bag because I wanted to keep everything organized for my upcoming MT swap. For many reasons I did not get around to my MT swap for several months. 6 weeks ago, I called up Fidanza to ensure my flywheel was in good working order for the swap. After 25 minutes, we determined that it is fake! Although the flywheel could potentially pass for a Fidanza, it does not carry the correct serial number. Further, my new insert did not quite fit into the flywheel after extensive measuring. Naturally, I emailed Ian and attempted to figure out what went wrong. He claimed that he had the flywheel for years and "knew" it was a Fidanza. He also said that he just never got around to selling it. I asked him to speak with the person he bought it from to find out what it actually was. No response. Knowing I needed A flywheel for my swap, I offered to ship the fake one back at my expense if he could refund me half the price ($75). Ian flat out refused any refund since he claimed 5 months was too long to report an issue. We did not discuss a returns time limit at purchase. If he sold me an inexpensive part, I would have let it slide. Selling a fake flywheel as a Fidanza without first checking it (or knowing it was fake), then refusing a refund is supreme ignorance or fraud. I would sue Ian if it were worth the court costs. Do not purchase products from Ian Lanusse (apostrophe28)!
