So while this is NZR, this place has some of the smartest car people I've ever known, so I figured I'd ask here. My Subie's #1 ringland blew out. Leakdown is at like 85% in 5 seconds, so I need a rebuild. The cost difference between a new Subaru shortblock and a rebuilt one with Wiseco pistons is negligible. My question is reliability. I won't be really going balls out with this engine, as it's my DD, but I don't want to blow another ringland either. Could partially be due to age (167K miles) or bad fuel or a marginal tune. Whatever the reason, I don't want to do it again. I know forged pistons are stronger, duh. But is the piston slap something to be concerned about with an aluminum block? Generally speaking, would I be able to get 50K out of the engine before it drank oil like an Irish sailor? Thanks in advance. Oh, and to keep it Z related...
