and several 100+ degree track days UV rays hitting the hood, roof, and hatch are worse for paint then the engine bay heat. Keep it polished/waxed and I hardly think the paint is going to flake off, it doesn't get THAT hot.....otherwise the unprotected paint on the firewall by the exhaust would have flaked off on all our cars years ago. The real worry is throwing away a fire countermeasure. If the engine goes up in flames, this thing supposedly drops onto it after the plastic mounting tabs melt....allowing greater likelihood to open the hood to put an extinguisher on it without the flames flaring up into your face and arms the moment you raise the hood. If you aren't THAT concerned about an engine fire, then I guess this shouldn't matter much to you.
