Because the disc is aluminum, if the clutch is allowed to constantly slip, the aluminum will melt at a lower temp than steel. The pedal adjusted in-correctly and not allowing full engagement is the most likely cause, especially at that low power level. The clamp load of every pressure plate is tested, a melted disc is not due to a defect, it occurs from overheating to the point of melting the aluminum, a total of 3 people out of over 1000 have managed to melt these aluminum disc's, none of the people that melted them had high power cars, yet lots of high power cars run them with great success. Pedal adjustment is critical to full engagement.
