Message But if you're going to have the tranny built it's most likely because racecar. Helical gears cause lateral load which thrusts their respective shafts opposite/toward each other. This thrust causes a side load on the bearings and gears. That side load causes parasitic loss and heat. I'm willing to bet drive train loss on a straight cut transmission is probably 1/3 less total drivetrain loss than helical. Plus you get that sweet gear whine :)
