In case you missed parts I & II [ http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/general/view/2560011/Something-2J-This-Way-Comes-Part-I.html ] [ http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/forums/general/view/2566904/Something-2J-This-Way-Comes-Part-II.html ] Progress has been slow and steady since the last update. The biggest hold up has been parts not fitting as advertised. If we were doing this over again going with the R154 trans would have probably made more sense. Live and learn.
Final prep before paint Homemade paint booth in progress Got the paint on....very pleased especially since it was my first time and it was really cold out I used a heater to in between coats to speed up drying times
Kind of felt like Bane during most of the painting process
More Paint Shots
After 5 coats of clear
Blocked off a hole that we no longer need in the radiator
We went with a cheap-bay manifold. After getting the mating surfaces leveled at a machine shop and welding on a V-band it actually turned out really nice. Less than $200 all said and done.
Starting to prep the plastic for paint Starting to look like an engine again
V band welded on...was able to do a pass on the inside and outside
Boost :)
And here is where the problems started......the adapter for the clutch was spaced incorrectly
This is the part that we had to fix
One of my buddies fixing it for us......
all done
Fits now...
and someone was so excited that they had to take it for a test drive..... Everything in!
So at this point all of the major components are in. We still have to fab an exhaust and wire everything up. I am sure that there will be some bugs to workout as well. Regardless....we are in the home stretch.
