Since then we have been making progress as time allows. One of the biggest bottlenecks in the process has been fabrication. Prior to this project I had never welded. So after some research on the interwebs I picked up a 3 in 1 watched a couple of hours of you tube videos and got started. I still have a lot to learn but am functional at this point.

Also, some items in the pics are mocks up only and I will be going to back to properly reinforce / clean up

Welding rig:

The collins adapter so we could keep the Z trans

Clutch that came with the trans kit. Amazing how small it is.

Trans had to come apart for some minor machine work

Had the bell housing machined to work properly with the adapter

Started prep on the 2J

A rare shot of Nancy actually working

More test fitting

Dual fuel pumps internally bridged

To give you a proper idea of how wide the Z engine bay is :)

Cross member work

practicing my weld skills on aluminum

The motor mounts that we bought were designed to work with the R154 so we ended up having to make new brackets to allow the engine to sit in the bay properly.

Mock up done and getting everything attached

These next images are disturbing..... I am sorry Joe it had to be done

So with moving the engine around everything had to be shortened to work.

Modifying the water neck to take the radiator cap

Switched the 410 diff out for taller gearing. This is from an Infiniti but is the same ratio as a TT Z and bolts right in.
Only thing we had to mod was the flange to accept the Z DS

Giving the block a final once over before getting the head back on

BC 264 VVTI Cams

So at this point the engine and trans fit and we are able shift gears, which is a pretty big mile stone.

Finishing the 2J long block and painting the engine bay are next on the list. Things should start to come together very quickly after that. Hopefully it will start to look like a car again soon :)
