Ok so this is a long post. It starts this time last year after returning from Z nationals 2012 at Barber track day. After Barber, I was on the hunt for another Z. I had made contact with one forum member owner and was conversing about a potential sale. In the mean time, I responded to an ad for a 30,000 mile white '90 TT and came home with a very very clean car. However as you will see, even low mileage clean cars need attention. What follows is mostly a pictorial review of Z events and a few other thrown in for interest leading up to Z nationals 2013 and another Barber track day.
This is what came out when I removed the engine under cover.
This was the Alt Bolt!! Glad I didn't try to drive this car home.
T rod bushings were busted. Replace here with ES
Lower Rad hose was out of clamp
T rods installed
Next up was time to start stripping the wrecked Black '90TT
Some of the RR suspension damage.
Then a deal was finally struck for the '95TT in Philly I had been pursuing since before buying the white '90TT
The '95 came with stock wheels and tires too. So since the '90TT came with 225mm tires on the rear, I swapped them out. Used some chrome stockers I already had.
Then I installed the clear fr turns also from my trip to Philly.
Installed black instrument hood / cover to break up some of the red.
Nearing completion of my neighbor / friends '90TT (with some recycle parts)
Some parts for the SPL tradein program. I kept the Stillen RR upper arms
'90 White Z getting subframe spacers
Track Z Intake porting to match 61mm T/Bs. Props to Robert Bastian. He does nice work porting the T/Bs
White '90 TT Rear main was leaking so...
Both RH coilovers had bent shafts from the wrecked track car, so got these from Kyle due to tight timelines. I have contacted TEIN and plan to use their rebuild services to salvage the ones from the wreck.
Had one Intercooler damaged too and since price for one through Bell / CZP was $500, I bought this set from SZ just for principle. Have since had local welder repair the Bell set and have ready for another project.
Then work began to prepare the New track Car (Black '91TT)
Then had to go to MS via charter plane. Cool ride. Got to ride in co-pilot seat on a King Air twin turbo prop.
TN river.
Mid summer started a backyard project because I wasn't busy enough and kids need more room to run.
Thought about going with these but ended up going with Whiteline bushing from Joe Allison to try and hold on to a little bit of civility. Happy with them so far.
Also used Whiteline RR diff bushing from Joe.
This is the third time I've done RR subframe bushings. So this time I decided to do the knuckle bushings also with SPL and Nismo (old stock I had).
Many new parts from Sean at SPL :)
Powertrix front upper arms :)
Last time to see '91TT with stock motor
Old school Stillens will move on to another project.
Back to '90 white TT for more service. There was a chipmunk nest behind that stock filter like you wouldn't believe. Not sure how the car ran.
'91 TT under the knife.
Since it was late summer and I had been sweating my butt off, I decided it was time to upgrade the garage with one of these.
'91TT ready for track motor
47,000mile stock motor mothballed for now.
'91 TT coming together
While it was out, I went through the top of the track motor AGAIN. I suspect in my head swap a year earlier I had a slight coolant leak. It ran great, but I could see signs of coolant in the exhaust housing and exhaust manifold
Refurbed the Sport 700's. Thanks SZ (Seb) and Mitch at EP for the coating.
Track motor in '91TT
I had starter grinding problems occasionally since installing a South Bend flywheel a couple years back. Got to comparing to other flywheel and found the starter ring was on backwards. So there was no lead in on the teeth engaging to starter.
Some heat, a BFH and whalla!
Ash Massives in
Ducts on
Had to grind / clearance for the 2.5" piping. Then added fuel hose on one side and butyl patch on the other for protection.
Pipe in. Fits like a glove.
Then I couldn't get the car to run. Fuel pump wouldn't turn on. Traced to bad ECU. So off it was to Seb at SZ.
While I was off to Russia.
If you look closely you can see the Eiffel Tower. I was in Paris for about 2.5 hours.
Back home to the important stuff. Powertrix RR sway links. Thanks Charles
Powertrix T/B cover.
Finally together enough (and running with the ECU fixed by Seb) for a custom alignment.
Checking full compression clearance to fender with 285s in the Rear. Some work to do here to be sure.
I had problems getting my 3" exhaust to align at the X-pipe to Test pipe junction. One test pipe always had a larger gap than the other. So I fabbed up simple space for a cleaner fix.
Off to local airshow with the wife and kids. Rides in this were $400 per person. So we rode in what looked like a Vietnam era Huey chopper instead. Another cool ride.
'91TT almost ready for Track Day 2013.
Opted to go without the EDFC this time for simplicity. Made these holes for RR coilover adjustment.
Another customers motor ready to go in.
Local wildlife approves of the backyard project.
Time to roll the fenders
Bling from Bernie
Prepping for the track
Fender roll
Making sure paint is warm and soft.
Done
Off to Z Nationals 2013!
Some cool stuff at Z nationals. I just picked 1 pic. I had BBQ from the same guy as previous 2 years there. Great stuff.
Barber on Sun. Got to see Mitch and Alan there. Good to see those guys and there Zs out on the track.
Parked next to member Piranha. Nice guys and impressive car. Didn't get to see it run though.
Track Day concluded without incident, loaded after 3 runs & rain just starting. A very good day:)
Made it to Grandma's for kids Bday!:)
Back home, a week later this shows up:) My raffle prize from Z Nationals. Thanks Z1!
I had ordered Mr. Duckering's T-Tops prior to Z Nationals hoping I would get them. They weren't ready in time. But they arrived soon after. I installed them on a set of spare tops so I can go back to glass for quietness.
Now that summer is over & it's cool I get around to installing the Big Ass Fan. This thing moves some air.
Next customer waiting.
Back to the '90 white TT for some more TLC
New Battery cables (recycled) & battery rod clip:)
Finally my latest gadget. Nylon coated to not scratch wheel.
I hope you enjoyed this year in review of a Z nut.
