About 6 weeks ago our very own TT.net member JWM300ZX / Justin blew up his " built" VG. We had picked up his engine from another car and the work on the bottom end was done poorly to say the least. Live & Learn. So with a little arm twisting from me he decided to swap a 2J into his Z ;)
The main reasons for doing so are: 1) Dollars to Horsepower ratio 2) Ease to work on in the future 3) And ease to work on in the future With the changes in turbo technology in the last couple of years you no longer have a lag monster when going over 600 hp on a single turbo 2J. We are shooting for 650hp to the pavement with E85 on a Dyno Dynamics Some of you will undoubtedly think that this is blasphemous....we think it will be cool. The build particulars are as follows:
VVTI 2J BC 264 Cams (VVTI compatible) Comp CT4 6265 Twin Scroll Triplex Cheapbay Special Manifold ARP Head Bolts ID 1k's 2x4E85's Tweak'D Harness Haltech PS2K w/HPI 6 300ZX Trans Modified 369 Diff Custom exhaust (keeping dual exhuast) Custom intercooler / radiator setup On to the pics:
arrival of 2J
Starting to prep the Z
VG Tear Down
Mocking up oil pan placement
Mock up of the new V mount setup to accommodate the 2J
Starting the prep on the engine bay for paint...Justin was hell bent on just WD40'ing everything and being done. Don't know why he didn't want my first attempt at painting to be on his engine bay :) We have the front and rear sump....still playing around ideas on how to fit everything up
Head back from the machine shop
my toys in storage while his Z makes a mess all over my garage :)
more to come soon......
