After talking James (the duck) into selling me the prototypes, I figured I owe him at least a small review of his T-Top panels. He is a top notch guy and gets my highest recommendation. So a week later, I'm greeted to a carefully packaged, super light, CF TTop panels. They looked great. Installation was super easy as I had just changed my top TTop molding last year. Took me about 10 mins per side. If you have never taken TTops apart, its still not hard. Maybe 30 mins per side. So my initial impressions was great fitment but I did noticed that one of the rubber trim pieces was loose and it got hung up when I was trying to remove it and it pulled off a bit more. I emailed James and told him that the glue he used was a bit on the weak side. He said that he would fix it or if I wanted, he'd send me another set (again, James is an outstanding guy). I'm not one to like waiting (plus we have a track day next weekend), and instead, used the stock trim from my stock glass panels. (If you go this route, just be careful when you're removing the stock trim, its easily bent but its not too bad if you take your time). So while the CF panels were bare (no trim) and my glass was bare, I couldn't resist to check James's panels to the real thing. Most aftermarket parts are off a bit, so I'll just fix it with some sandpaper and my dremel before installing the stock trim. Well, to say they were close is an understatement. I cleaned my stock trim and they went right on! I also compared the rubber trim that james used to stock and was surprised at how close he got. (See pic. stock is on the right)
So needless to say, they are an exact fit. They look killer and my Ttops are almost half the weight of my stock TTops. My TTops now weigh 8.2 Lbs each. I weighed my stocks at 15Lbs. (side note: Each of the ttop shade is almost exactly 1lb. But seeing that you won't need these anymore, we'll count them with the weight loss. Also, my Ttop gained back 1lb with the stock trim. So 7Lbs for each TTop if you use the rubber trim) So did I want them for the CF look? Hell no. My hatch is CF and I had it painted the day I got it on my car. Is the weight reduction worth it? For me, yes. It cuts about the same amount of weight as going to a 1pc aluminum ds and instead of removing weight where you shouldn't, it pulls weight from where it matter most. The quality is incredible and hell the new M6/M3 and Corvette have CF roofs, its kinda cool so does my car. Highs: Fitment as good as stock. Half the weight of the glass. James is very good guy. Looks good (even if you aren't a CF fan). Much easier and less scary to remove and store your Ttops. Lows: Hmmmm, maybe a slight increase in road noise. People think you bought them cause you love CF. What do you do with the stock glass? So I give James a 8.5 out of 10. Mostly cause the price will be too steep for most. But the quality is unbelievable, he's been such an easy guy to deal with and you really do get what you pay for and these are def not over priced. Also James promises me that the problem with the adhesive will be fixed. Ken 91TT P.s. I'll let the pics to the talking. The Tops look stock from almost all angles but luckly Cons (1BadTTZ) was able to get them to show up.
