It's kind of like those chicks who get addicted to plastic surgery I think. I can certainly sympathize with his desire to get into something that he wont feel tempted or necessary to mod. I still feel disappointment over spending almost 4 years in Germany and only putting less than 4k miles on my Z. Had I known it was going to incur so much downtime, I would have left it here in the US and bought something else over there I could really make the most out of the relatively short driving seasons with and then resold fairly easily.
