Dont feel bad, I watched fwd 160hp Renaults go whizzing by me at the Nurburgring the last time I went to a track...granted the drivers clearly had much MUCH more experience driving the 'ring than I did but it also brings up a bigger point that suspensions need tuning too. Why else do you think such services are available? One simply cannot expect to throw every aftermarket suspension part available on a car and expect it all to work harmoniously. There are so many way you can actually make the handling WORSE by adding more or swapping out for certain aftermarket. I suffered absolutely unworkable understeer too, in my TT with OEM shocks and eibach springs...it is simply a crap combination for track purposes once your driving gets anywhere above novice levels. So I made the switch to SPL coilovers, ES bushings, and made a change in upper control arms, front and rear. Took the car to a shop for an alignment by guys who do race cars and autoXers all day, including their own spec-cars, and let them set an alignment that wouldnt chew up my tires driving around on public roads but still was conducive for track time as a baseline to see how I liked the new handling characteristics of the new gear on the Z. As it turns out I never felt the need to return to tweak it or change anything. maybe I could have, but my driving was not so awesome yet that the alignment was "slowing me up". Most amateurs fall into this category whether they admit it or not, realize it or not. While I was pleased with my Z's handling at Hallett in Oklahoma.....at the next track date the car handled like a dream at the silky smooth F1-quality surface at Spa-Francorchamps....and then I showed up to the Nurburgring Nordschleife, and it was WAY too stiff and WAY too skittish for my blood (and my insurance policy). So you see there is a little more to it than simply throwing on aftermarket parts getting it aligned to the specs on the shop's database for 300ZX's and calling it good. People forget "MOD FOR A PURPOSE" actually is the best advice they will ever get, but instead they take it as an insult. Those people invariably end up right where you are....just you are man enough to admit it. It sounds like you really want to spend a lot of time doing track days and your intention was to mod your car for it. So I would recommend finding a handling specialist, bring your mod list with all pertinent data (dampening rates, spring rates, vehicle weight data, alignment specs, etc) and see what they recommend to neutral the car's handling out and make it less of a chore to drive fast. I doubt there is anything wrong with your Z that some proper tweaking can't handle. If you have the car really that stripped down it shouldnt be that difficult to get good results out of a well thought out suspension upgrade/tune.
