Message If you are having piston slap there are inconsistencies in the cylinder bores. Out of round, too much taper, egg shaped, too much piston to wall clearance. There are A LOT of consumers that have machine shops build their engines but do not take the needed steps to find out the important information on whether they use a tq plate, how they hone, bore, etc etc. Its important for consumers to understand this and require their machinist use the required fixtures/tools to do the job correctly. Lets face it, a VG30 tq plate isn't common so there are A LOT of shops that do not use them and for this reason ppl will have issues with cylinder bore distortion. This distortion on the majority of engines cause several issues one most common is piston slap. Im not saying that all machine shops are doing their jobs wrong but if an excessive amount of ppl are using machine shops that are not setup or equipped with the proper tooling/fixtures to do a certain engine correctly it would be wise to seek out the shops that do and utilize them. While they sometimes may be more expensive, they are the ones that have taken the time to furnish the required materials and tooling to do the job right from the start. On every engine that is new that comes in the shop, I go out and buy tq plate material and machine a new tq plate for that series of engine. Its a cheap insurance policy for myself to fabricate one not to mention for future builds that could possibly come in the shop, I'd already be ahead of the game in having the fixture available.

I can safely say though that I've never had an engine that I've machine or built that has had a piston slap issue. I've assembled several engines with both CP and Wiseco and not a single one have had piston slap upon start up on a cold start.
