Subject	What's the best bang for your buck diagnostic software?

Message	I've searched but there are mixed feelings and most posts are years old. I emailed whatsthegoodword and he is no longer selling cables or software. Ideally I'd like to be able to buy the software and cable together as a package so I know it works instead of trying a DIY cable and pirated software hoping it works. Not looking to spend a fortune either though. I'm not looking to tune the ECU I just want to pull codes and read sensor outputs basically. Has anyone downloaded the freeware version of conzult and had good luck? How about DIY cables? Is there a set up known to work every time?
