So every year I park my Z for about 2-3 weeks around Christmas time and take leave to wrench on it for fun =D
This year's main goal is to kill the ANGRY CICADA hiding inside my engine.... I diagnosed it to be a leaking manifold gasket.
I think maybe the reason why the gasket failed is the nuts on the manifold slowly lost their grip from being covered in oil and got loose so the gasket was no longer clamped down and eventually blew out. The main solution I suppose would be to eliminate the oil leak and clean the surfaces, studs, and nuts thoroughly and install everything torqued to spec.... but I really don't want to go through this again so I was thinking either 1 double nutting, 2 tack welding the nuts in place, 3 aircraft safety wire the nuts, 4 stake washers, 5 blue or red threadlock on the nuts only. I also decided I'm going to change the gasket on the passenger side manifold and guess what happened LOL
Some of the most sarcastic sentences ever formulated left my mouth, an example would be: "ooooohh yaaay we are gonna have soooooo much fun tonight :D" and the weird part was.... I'm such a sick freak I actually enjoyed it, it was like playing a twisted version of skill crane.... and to make it more challenging with a 9.6 volt cordless drill. Either way I win hahaI also have a mini review... I bought a F1 racing lightweight flywheel and ACT 6 puck unsprung clutch combo kit off of ebay... yeah yeah shame on me w/e I have to say I am pleased and impressed with the results:
I put about 40,000 miles on it, I've probably made about 25 drag strip passes on it and SEVERAL jack rabbit starts and no issues (besides the slightly annoying chatter which is normal) I am so pleased in fact that I will be going for round 2 and already ordered a replacement disc as the one I have is too close to the rivets to warrant putting it back in just to have to take it back out in maybe ~5,000 miles
I hope this post was entertaining for you Zbros
*disclaimer*: all that I say may be true or I may be completely wrong and I accept that.... please, it is your duty as another person on the internet to tell me (in-politely) how wrong I am :) "The dreaded 2nd windshiled wiper swipe when you turn it off its almost like tis showing you that it's boss, and it doesn't have to stop when you tell it to :("-College Boy This is what happens when you leave your Z parked outside too long:
