(Now I understand there is a technical forum, and I did post this question there first - but I also understand there are many experienced/knowledgeable people on this forum who don't check the tech forum frequently and I'd like more opinions as this is an urgent issue) So - I am assembling an engine for a friend's TT build. The motor was originally a great running JDM TT engine, car was wrecked, sat for 1.5-2 years, and now the motor is being transplanted to another car. I've done the 120k service, along with msp mani's, 675's, 740's, yada yada. The motor is still on the stand with the upper plenum off and I was spinning the motor by hand a few times when I heard air escaping past cyl #1 intake valves. I can see the valves rising to what appears to be closed position, but a fair amount of air is getting past them. Timing was accurate when the belt was installed and tensioned (OEM belt lined up with marks on gears while @ TDC) so I'm leaning away from a cam timing issue. Where should I start on the diagnosis of this? It's possible some debris is sitting on the valve not allowing it to close fully, but if that's not the case what steps should I take in diagnosing this? The valve doesn't appear bent either. Thanks in advance everyone, this site is the best! (Pic of engine - please ignore the trash in the back!)
