Message I figured I would post this up since I have a little free time today.

Well to keep it short, Rays Z was running the Ash spec fuel pump controller with the dual wallbro pumps and we had it on the dyno last summer just playing with the boost controller and some race gas. At around 600+hp we started getting a lean condition over 5000rpms. we started checking fuel pressure first and after trying to adjust it up a little, the pressure dropped off to 24psi and would not raise back up at all. So I limped it back to our shop and began trouble shooting. Greg and Seb from speacialty Z have been telling us for a while this setup up was not good with the fuel pumps and ash controller and I got to see why first hand.

The stock wiring is not ment to handle the load of 2 high flow pumps. so it basicly over loaded the system and cooked the wires. we were lucky it didn't melt all the way and start a fire. here are some picks I took of the burnt electrical stuff.

His setup

Fuel pump wires in tank to one of the pumps were hard and melted.

2 pins on right are + and - fuel pump harness plug pins melted.

female side of the plug burnt.

I work with low voltage wiring for my job every day. Here is the main issue with this set up.
The harness coming from the body harness running to the fuel pump itself is 18awg wire. 18 gauge wire is rated at 10amps. Here is a chart showing the draw of 1 walbro 255 pump.

[ [ http://www.roadraceengineering.com/fuelpumpflowrates.htm ] ]

So at 14 volts each pump is drawing over 10amps. This will cause the wire to get supper heated and eventually melt and fail/start on fire.

We ended up installing 2 stealth 340 pumps in place of the walbro's. I also replaced the the connectors and upgraded the harness wire to 12 gauge. I also installed a hobs switch with a separate relay and wiring to run the second pump. We had no further problems with this set up running the car over 800whp.
