[ http://www.luxeonstar.com/Cool-White-CoolBase-Side-Emitting-LED-235-lm-p/sr-04-wc310.htm ] Just for comparison - a 1157 regular bulb puts out around 400 lumens or so but bulbs also radiate out over a wider viewing radius than the LEDs (which have a narrower field of high brightness viewing). Note: LEDs also have specific voltage limitation issues (ie., maxes out at 3volts) so they can't be just wired directly to the car's +12v system. This is not a big deal but something that has to be considered.... Just throwing the Luxeon LEDs out as an idea -- so would need some further thought and planning....
