Message When you see the occasional fogged up headlight now and again, what do you suppose was the mistake the owner made? I ask this openly to anyone who may have an answer. I find it hard to believe that they could have washed the car "wrong" or left the car out in heavy rain. It just doesnt make sense. Maybe they had the headlights out and came across the dessicant and unknowingly tossed it out? I was up until now under the impression that this was the telltale sign of someone who cracked open and resealed a headlight on a hot humid summer day for whatever reason.

Also heating up air has the opposite effect, it doesnt remove moisture from air, it allows it to contain more humidity than the same volume of air at a lower temperature, therefore increasing the chances of fogging up when temps drop for that same pocket of air later.....hence my asking what can be done in prevention.

I'm guessing your success in not having the lenses fog up is because your part of CA does not see humid weather. So you basically resealed your headlights with relatively dry ambient air. I'm thinking if you did this procedure in Louisiana or Florida during the summer just out in your garage, you would stand a really good chance of having fogging when the weather turned cold.
