Message Several months ago I forgot to latch the convertible top before taking a test drive. The top blew open and broke the convertible frame on both sides. After looking for the brackets all over the country I found out that most convertible tops break in the same spot and it is a common problem. The brackets are no longer available through Nissan and no one had a set that was not broken. Here is the diagram of the part from the fiche.

The problem with rewelding them is that they are cast aluminum and several people I contacted did not want to have anything to do with them. Eventually I found Left Field Engineering who had repaired a set with good results.

Left Field Engineering

Andy at Left Field was helpful and repaired the brackets very quickly. He machined the brackets to accept an aluminum plug that reinforced the area where the brackets normally fail. If you ever have a set most likely they will break right across the tapped hole that holds on the weather stripping. Overall I would say he did exceptional work and had an extremely quick turnaround time. The brackets installed perfectly and have been on the car for several months now. Hope this helps others who run into the same problem.
