Message	gravity vs. pressure. If it's left open, it will fill where ever it can relieve pressure until it equalizes with atmosphere. You won't get it below the pan which is why is had (not) in the first post. It would be preferable to help get the air out of the feed line at least. The Accusump piston is always under some pressure from the backside, so gravity 'feed' doesn't do anything. Later How old is your car in human years?
