| First things first. Anyone who goes out on a STREET tire they drive around on daily to me is pointless..... Drag racing is all about the launch. If you spin/wheel hop you wasted your time.... Get a set of drag radials either MT ET radials or A decent set of slicks.... Drive the car through the water box and pull forward just enough to be out of the soaking wet pavement put the car in 2nd gear rev up to about 6500 dump the clutch put your foot on the brake just enough to hold you still for a few seconds, once you see smoke coming from your wheel well let off the brake and move forward a little and lightly let off the gas. till you hear the tires hook up. Now that your tires are nice and sticky do the following. Inch up to the white lines (if track has them) or to the light beams that control the "christmas tree" once the top amber bulb lights up, scoot forward just a little more till the bottom amber lights up. From that point wait for the other car to stage (if it hasnt already) and once both of you are staged start revving to around 6k-6500rpm. At that point the "Christmas tree" Will start coming down yellow yellow yellow (on the last yellow dump/feather the clutch enough to get traction) if you have waited for the green light your reaction is to late and chances are you didnt cut a good light and the person you were racing is now 4 car lengths ahead and from that point its all about hitting shift points and enjoying traction in first and second gear and being stuck in your seat and enjoying the ride... When it comes to the launch its all about sticky tires/track and feathering the clutch just enough to get traction and from there you dump it.. and enjoy it.... if you just dump the clutch the shock can snap things like axles, transmissions, motor mounts from wheel hoping ect..... alot of problems can happen. This is why you feather the clutch just a tad to get moving and at that point of traction you let go and have the car floored. Feather to much or dont launch high enough the car will fall on its face and the car next to you is half way done by the time you get going. Hope I helped.
