Re-installed my battery after voltage checked out ok @12.4v

After starting the car, NDS showed voltage pegged at 16v. I took a reading with a multi-meter and the voltage was at 18v, not good.

So I'm thinking a new regulator is in order. It appears to be a relatively small part in the diagram on courtesy's site. Is it something I can replace DIY? Or does it require special tools/procedure?

Anyone else done it?
