These cars are now an average of 20 years old. Anyone running the original fuel pressure regulator from when the car was new is asking for failure. The fuel pressure regulator allows the fuel pressure to rise with boost, if the regulator fails, the engine runs lean causing detonation that eats bearings. Any vacuum/boost hoses/seals that are allowed to fail can cause the turbos to create more boost than what your boost gauge reads, this causes more heat that causes detonation. Fuel pump being weak, crap in the fuel tank, can cause the fuel pressure to drop and cause detonation. Rich conditions from bad fuel dampers that leak into the vacuum line, bad coolant temp sensors and many different problems can dilute the oil and cause the lack of lubrication that can eat bearings. Injectors that are weak can cause lean conditions that cause detonation. I could go on, but need to go to my Son's Basketball game.
