| is WAY different. Its a whole new topic but to answer your question YES it does auto advance timing till the point of detonation and then backs down from there. Infact it has a very complicated system that targets load and keeps increasing boost, timing etc to achieve that load. You can simply gain power in those cars by pumping in high octane gas since it will automatically advance timing to take advantage of the higher octane. It also auto adjusts the A/F across the entire range since it has WB o2 from the factory and it uses a fairly interesting knock control setup with 4 knock sensors on the block. It can retard timing on a per cly basis by using the crank angle sensor and triangulating knock from the 4 knock sensors. it has uses premptive knock control by somehow measuring the ionisation rate in the combustion chamber using the spark plug. Not sure of the science behind that yet. Obviously there are limiters in place that prevent too much adjustment but it can control A/F + - 35% and far more that the Z which is about 15 % only. It is a really cool setup and i can go on and on about it but i don't think you are really interested :) so... hope this little bit helps Harry
