If these pictures are of a completely unsprayed diffuser area then he must have shot the primer only where we see color which would seem difficult to do well. I took the above quote to refer to the products original finish because it comes directly after stating the product does not come primed. Assuming that, he hasn't said what make the diffuser area black in the pictures. Maybe the second line is saying that the black is primer but that was not explicit. If so, I'd have to question if primer is really suited for long term exposure to the elements, washing, etc, etc...
