if the oil cooler is creating a huge disparity (100 degrees or more) in pre and post cooled temps (any more so than the radiator is for the cooling system). If temps went from 300 to 200 I'd say that might cause a problem, however I think going from 300 to 280/275 is much less of an issue. I thought the restrictor only allowed oil to flow through once it reached a certain pressure, which would typically be at higher rpms where more cooling would be needed.
