Message So I had the opportunity to do a comparison of two 355 AeroRotors from StopTech, one of them which ship standard with StopTech BBKs, and the new Trophy version.

For those not familiar with StopTechs new caliper - taken from [ http://www.stoptech.com/Products/trophy.shtml ]

"StopTech's latest racetrack and competition brake system comes with the new Trophy STR lightweight forged calipers in six-piston, four-piston and two-piston configurations. Based on the StopTech ST-60, ST-40, and ST-22 calipers, STR calipers feature the same metallurgy and design, but are engineered to provide a 20-percent reduction in weight without sacrificing stiffness or performance. STR calipers are also available in Sport Trophy kits designed for production street driven vehicles which utilize dust boots, anti-rattle rotor mounting hardware and include StopTech Street Performance brake pads. All existing StopTech kits can be ordered as Trophy or Sport Trophy kits."

For the 300ZX, StopTech deemed the front 4 piston ST-40 and the 2 piston ST-22 for the rear as the necessary piston arrangements required for our braking needs.

Regarding the new ST-40:

"Fully forged aluminum construction with hard anodized finish
ALL finished parts are 100% leak down and pressure tested to 2500 PSI
ST-40 uses standard FMSI D372 pad
Any combination of 8 piston sizes available to match kit to vehicle application
Differential piston sizes minimize pad taper
Dust boots are standard on Sport Trophy kits
Same caliper used by top SpeedĀ® World Challenge and Grand-Am Cup Teams"

Regarding the new ST-22:

"Fully forged aluminum construction with hard anodized finish
All finished parts are 100% tested to a pressure of 2500 PSI
Uses standard FMSI D961 Pad (VIEW PAD SHAPE)
2 piston opposed design
May be added to cars with existing front StopTech kits
Piston size adjusted for the application, just like our front calipers
Dust boots are standard on Sport Trophy kits"

One can see the obvious differences in machining. The Trophy is way more aggressive looking, since the pistons are more exposed due to the casting removal. Even the logo is machined, as opposed to a powdercoated logo.

With regards to weight, the regular StopTech ST-40 weighed in at 7.8 lbs, and the Trophy version weighed in at 6.8 lbs - a difference of exactly one pound. Both rotors weighed in at 17.8 lbs, the only visible difference between them being the hat color. Rest of the supporting hardware is the same.
