Coke, Pepsi, and other sodas seem to be designed to create caries because of the sugar and phosphoric acid. Dentists actually use phosphoric acid for etching the enamel prior to the insertion of filling, but this in a controlled environement of course. Phosphoric acid corrodes the surface of the enamel, clearing the way for the micro organisms, which are fed by the sugars in the Coke. Double whammy! Several dentistry books have colour pics of severely destroyed teeth with texts like "The patient drank too much sodas", or "The patient was a heavy Coca-Cola drinker". Coca Cola teeth
