Trying to differentiate an annoying underhood sound. If I can get a
decent recording I will post mine but I've had trouble getting anything
clear. It is a knocking, ticking or rattling sound. Through searching I think it
may be anyone of:
-lifter tick
-VTC tick
-valve rattle
-bad tensioner
-I even saw a post about PVC's rattling?? The noise is there at idle and above, but may be constant throughout the
rpm range and just being hidden by the roar of the engine. The frequency
increases as RPMs increase. To me it sounds like it is coming from the area of the timing belt cover or
center front of the plenum. However, one guy I showed it to said he
thought it was coming from the passenger side, maybe more towards the
rear. It has been there for some time and either it is now getting more
pronounced or I'm becoming more paranoid about it. I would definetly say it is coming from the top and not the bottom. Anyway, sorry for the long post but if you've made it this far and think
you may have something that could help I would really appreciate you
