| 92 vr 4 has the weaker 5 sp transmission and the weaker 2 bolt block. VR4 transfer cases especially the earlier one blow up on a regular basis. the 5 sp trans is vague and has week synchros. If you have to trade trade with a 95 + vr4. Now my opinion. VR4's are easier to drive fast when modded BUT the ergnomics and the driving feel is far better on a 300zx. Stock to stock if abused the vr4 will beat the 300zx in a straight line barely. Any advantage is lost above 100 mph. The Z has FAR superior in terms of feedback. In summary Z has the edge in the following areas Outright handling stock
Roll on acceleration
Shifting speed
Mechanical reliability for Engine and Trans and rear end
Looks
Ergnomics and the feel of spaciousness inside
Better interior materials IMO
Better aftermarket upgrades (well sorted out) The VR4 is better in the following areas Straight line accelearation if abused from a stop
Brakes if they are from the later years
Looks (for some people) but only the later years
Better resale if you compare same year/miles/condition IMO is it a good trade - No not really. If someone offered me a 99 VR4 in pearl white with black interior in pristine condition. I MIGHT want to trade a older Z for it. Harry
