Message This is a pretty simple procedure, but I figure a little write up might help some people.

If you find yourself replacing your T top for whatever reason, you will want to transfer the lock from your original to your new one, to keep it compatible with your ignition and lock keys.

A few years ago my car was broken into, the T top glass was shattered and the handle on the lock was busted off. I was able to find a replacement just fine thanks to TT.net.

Things needed:
Phillips screwdriver
Flat head screwdriver
About 20 minutes

The first step is to place your original top and your new top side by side. I performed these steps simultaneously on both tops, but you may want to do one at a time.

Then remove each screw on either side of the interior trim piece. There is one screw on each side.

After the screws are removed you can slide off one side.

Next, remove the single screw holding in the plastic trim around the lock.

After that be sure to lift up on the T top latch by sliding the safety lock forward.

Use a medium size flat head driver to gently pop off the safety switch.

With the latch sticking straight up, you can twist off the plastic trim piece.

Next we need to remove the two screws holding in the lock mechanism. But to get to that we have to remove the vinyl trim piece. At this point the piece should lift off easily.

Next remove the two screws holding in the lock. There is a little black plastic piece on the bottom of the lock, make sure that remains on as you remove it.

Now, simply place the original lock on the new top and tighten down. Make sure that the black plastic piece is still attached, and that the little black plastic arm fits into the groove of the new top.

Now, using your key verify that it is functioning correctly by turning it all the way and checking to see if the latch is locked.

Now reassembly should be a breeze, so here is the basics:

-Tighten down 2 screws holding in lock

- Replace Vinyl piece

-Make sure top latch is in the up position and replace
plastic trim, screw back into place (Be careful not to overtighten as this piece is fragile)

-Gently pop safety switch back on

-Replace end cap and screw on each side.

-Place top back in/on car.
