yourself without reporting it is a violation of your insurance contract. Since most states require auto insurance now, that would mean that every fender bender and accident that happened would be reported. That would just be insane, and I've personally been in small accidents that I haven't reported. Nowadays, if damage is minimal, it's more valuable to fix it yourself than to report it to an insurance company. I'd definitely fight this one if I were you.
