For someone to conjure up a statement such as "I came from owning a 240 and I think it shows in my Z as a lot of styling cues come from that scene," is pretty naive. Just because the 240 guys do it, should I do it without understanding the reasons? For one, it's not a styling cue as quoted. If for anything, it was a purpose furthest from styling. The ricer world just copied it because it "looks cool". In the good ol' days of yesteryear, the Japanese guys put on thinner tires on a wider wheel because it did not require a fender roll. Just think about it -- the stretch causes a rounded sidewall and was less likely to scrape the inner fenders. This made sense, because the guys who did this normally did it to smaller diameter wheels, not 19's or 20's. Even at the extremes, the smaller diameters did not require fender rolls.
