Message It's not really that hard to remove the stereo system. I did it in about 2 hours total (speakers and head unit) the first time. If you get good, you can usually spend as little as 30 minutes removing or installing a brand new system. Just check around online, there are some other sites that have basic guides for free.

I also had Zmaxsystems solder the stereo harness that came with my head unit to a special adapter that he makes to plug directly into the stock cable harness in the car for $5. I recommend going this route because all universal adapters will slowly burn out your electrical system unless you wire them correctly.

Believe me, you don't want to have to wire your own speakers if you go the aftermarket route. There are horror stories of people spending hours trying to figure out how to properly wire their systems. If you do it right though, you'll be much happier than you would be had you gone with repairing the stock system.
