It's not obvious from the photo but this stripped wheel has a very rough finish, a lot like that of a raw plenum in our cars. To get to this: 
took a great amount of work with flapper wheels and sandpaper before it was ready for polishing compound. But that's just one type of wheel. So I have no idea of what's under the paint on your wheels. All I'm saying is, don't jump to conclusions about what you have in store for refinishing. My suggestion is, if you find a rough finish on your wheels once they are stripped, consider a near chrome type PC as an alternative to polished metal. Good luck with your project. . . .
