Message	duct would be one reason. Of course, the Japanese Z's had mounts in the front bumper, in front of the radiator. Which is equally terrible. She probably did it for looks anyway. Have you seen the roads in Japan? Terrible surface quality and littered with bumper to bumper traffic. (At least where I've seen) I couldn't see pushing a car there, unless on a race track.
