Message An HID bulb contains xenon gases, thus they're referred to as xenon lights. Don't be fooled by the knock off lights that claim they are "xenon white" or anything of the sort. Unless it is actually an HID kit, with a set of ballasts - it's fake.

That being said, you need to find your happy medium for color/brightness for an HID kit. A breakdown of color/light output: The lower the number (say 4300k) the brighter, and more white the light will be. The higher the number (say 12,000k) the bluer, and less bright the light will be.

I can tell you that even a 12,000k bulb is still tons brighter than a halogen. Some love the 4300k because it's the brightest you can get, but you will not sacrifice much light output going to a 6000k for a little bit more blue. An 8000k bulb will be a bit less noticeable on the light output, but IMO looks really good too (and again, is still TONS brighter than halogen).

For the record I'm currently running blue "color effect" bulbs that would probably be the equivelant of a 15-18,000k, and they're about where a halogen would be for light - but the color output is straight blue.
