I am tempted to say that any motor that is designated in Liters is "Sport Compact" and motors that are identified by cubic inches are "Muscle". I think it comes down to technology. And since it's getting harder and harder to distinguish on that basis, perhaps there shouldn't be any separation at all, especially since dyno competition doesn't mean anything. It's all about how much weight you have to move around with the power you have. Little else matters.Another categorization that I like is domestic vs. import. That's how they do it at San Antonio Raceway. Yet, another way of looking at it, would be to say that "Muscle" should be anything with a V8 or larger. For example the new M3 would be muscle, but the 335i (twin turbo V6) would be sport. The current Audi S4 would be muscle, but the new S4 (direct injected supercharged V6) would be sport. The Supra would be sport, even with 1000+ hp as would all Mitsubishis, the Neon SRT4, the Cobalt SS, all Hondas, all Acuras, as well as V6 Camaros, Mustangs, Chargers, and Pontiacs.
