This is CA law but may apply in other states. It is your legal right to request a trial by mail. You don't have to go to court. When you receive your courtesy notice in the mail request a trial by mail. They will send you the paper work and a deadline for it. The officer must fill out the same paper work and has the same deadline. If he is late the case is dismissed. Also the officer does not get paid to fill out this paper work unlike when he has to go to court. If you are found guilty you have the right to request a new trial and can do it all over again. It takes 5-10 mins to fill out the paper work. My dad has a Ducati 1098 has been written over 5 tickets only once has he actually had to pay it. Every other time his bail has been returned. You must post bail when requesting trial by mail.
