| My apologies up front for shamelessly soliciting legal advice on TT.net but there's actually some pretty intelligent people on here ;) So around Aug 5th or 6th I got a speeding ticket from Tx state hwy patrol and reported on my court date in Kinney County courthouse approximately 3 weeks later- turns out they didn't have my ticket or any record of it. I figured I got lucky and in stead of paying for a $300 ticket I bought a $300 radar detector- lesson learned right? Then, 2 weeks or so after my court date I received a call saying they found the ticket and instructed me to just send a money order in the mail. I've chosen not to "just send a money order in the mail" because I've always been skeptical of those transactions and I feel like I would be deprived of due process by doing so whereas at my original court date I had the option to plea no contest or not guilty. I currently have another court date coming up next tues and would prefer not to pay $300. I spoke to a DA at a bar ha and he told me that my right to a speedy trial was violated by the court not being prepared when I showed up the first time. Anyway, I sort of feel like the court may be trying to bully me since I have zero legal experience so if there's any lawyer or paralegal out there with some knowledge please advise. Thanks! FWIW- the speeding ticket was somewhat severe, I was on the sportbike and had just passed someone. No one actually pulled me over but there was a cop who had pulled someone else over and came out of his car to signal me to stop. The TX hwy patrol Chevy Tahoe (haha) pulled up about 2 min later to give me a ticket. I think he was out of gas after trying to catch me. I thought about just driving off when the cop stepped out of the car but I saw two more unmarked cop cars down the road. All in all I counted a total 6 LE vehicles in that half mile stretch of speed trap. Sort of ridiculous you think?
