Then worry about upgrades. Get out to a couple of events and have fun. Get an instructor along to keep you in course and give you pointers. That's the best way to start, and your times will improve with skill and understanding. Car upgrades are secondary at this stage. As long as your car is in good running order and decent tires (you certainly don't need R-compounds yet), you're good to go. I regularly see good drivers run faster times in bone-stock cars over heavily modded newbies.
