Message I've seem some posts on this...don't know if anyone has addressed this yet so thought I would add a little insight. With Stoptech's two piece hat and rotor design they use a series of hex bolts and 'nuts' to attach the two in a sleeve that is basically a stretched sphere hole. (think of a racetrack oval) This allows the hat and rotor to expand and contract through heat cycles somewhat independently.

The downside of this is that if these hex bolts tend to rattle and let the rotor rattle in place - who cares on a race car...but annoying on a street car. So stoptech came up with a spring washer (code name Belville washer...whatever) which exerts pressure on assembly when not under braking force to eliminate rattle.

Long story short - these things tend to fatigue after time or may come somewhat loose. If you are having rattle issues, check these washers, tighten if they are loose (72 INCH/lbs), or replace with a kit from Stoptech if the washers have flattened or are fatigued. (around $50 per side) Eureka, problem solved.
