Message from the US, but here in Canada with most major insurers there is a limit to how much they will cover for car parts under your home insurance, and it isn't all that much (like ~$1500 or so). But at the same time, parts removed from your car are NOT covered under your auto policy while not on the car. Even if both your cars and house are insured by the same company this is still a problem.

So in theory, if you have 530BBs and all the supporting mods sitting on a shelf at home ($$$$'s in parts) and someone breaks into your home and steals it all, you may be SOL.

The only way I could find to have your cake and eat it too would be to insure the Z under a separate collector's policy (there are some companies that will do that) and with that comes a more extensive coverage for spare parts. However with that policy comes other restrictions, such as limited mileage and no commuting to work, etc.
