I bought a TT Z earlier this year that needed engine work and I just got around to stripping the engine down. It has Venolia pistons in it. The problem with the engine is that one of the oil squirters broke off, got chunks in the oil, and spun a rod bearing. Now that I have it apart and can look at it, ALL of the oil squirters are broken (the tab sticking out with the hole for the screw is broken on one side on the two squirters that didn't fall down). It looks like the piston might have bumped them on the downstroke. I know Venolia pistons are not very common, but I was wondering if anyone else has used them and had this problem. I don't want to reassemble and have the new squirters do the same thing. One last question, is it ok to grind a little relief spot on the pistons where it lines up with the squirter? I only ask because of the heat causing a crack where I grind it. I would sand the area I grind so there aren't any peaks or valleys where cracks would likely form.
